Preview: The role of the Holy Spirit is explained. This is the first lesson in a two-part series on this subject.

Scripture Reading: I John 5:1-13.

Memory Verse: I John 5:7.

1. What did Jesus say the Spirit of Truth would do for the children of God? John 16:13.
Note: The Holy Spirit speaks, teaches, bears witness, makes intercessions, distributes spiritual gifts, and invites sinners to repentance. The work of the Holy Spirit is much different from what many people believe today.
2. Whom does the Holy Spirit glorify? John 16:14.
Note: It is plain from the Scriptures that the Holy Spirit is the personal representative of Christ. It abides in the Church through the lives of men (dwelling in their hearts and controlling their lives).
3. How are the hidden things revealed to us? I Corinthians 2:10.
4. Was the Holy Spirit in existence prior to the day of Pentecost? II Peter 1:21.
5. How are believers sealed? Ephesians 1:13.
6. What advice did Paul give to the Ephesians? Ephesians 4:30.
7. Does God’s Spirit continue to strive with men who refuse to obey Him? Genesis 6:3.
8. What did David pray for? Psalm 51:11.
9. How liberal is God with the Holy Spirit? Luke 11:13.
10. Will God hear His children if they ask for the Holy Spirit? I John 5:14.
Note: Let every child of God seek the filling of the Holy Spirit. We are not in need of what the world calls the spirit, but we are in much need of that which God promised to send His children. We should have no desire for anything that will glorify ourselves, but we should have a strong desire for everything that will help us to glorify God. Our Savior and His Father are glorified when we walk in the paths of righteousness.
